Richard Mark Dobson is a globally experienced photographer whose work fuses the precision of commercial craft with the emotion of documentary storytelling. His images are built on vibe—atmosphere that resonates, stirs memory, and evokes feeling.
In collaboration with Ajmal Samuel and The Ajmal Samuel Foundation, Dobson creates powerful visual narratives that go beyond adventure, becoming artworks in their own right. Together, they aim to inspire and to offer discerning collectors photography that is as meaningful as it is beautiful.
Biography
Richard Mark Dobson was born in Bradford, UK, and raised in South Africa, where he studied graphic design at the Johannesburg College of Art. His journey into photography began in London, assisting acclaimed advertising photographer Duncan Sim, where he honed his craft and discovered the camera as his passport to travel and storytelling.
Since opening his first studio in Hong Kong, Richard has lived on three continents, worked in over 40 countries, and developed a career that bridges editorial photojournalism and commercial advertising. His work has been featured in leading international magazines, earned recognition at Cannes Lions and D&AD, and been honored by the London Association of Photographers.
Richard has published several books, including Karoo Moons, one of South Africa’s most collected photographic editions, and continues to create images that blend narrative, craft, and a deep sense of place.
